PublicSchoolOptions.org pleased to see governor focus on expanding choice for parents and students WASHINGTON – PublicSchoolOptions.org applauded Governor Charlie Baker’s call to lift the cap on public charter schools in Massachusetts during his state of the state speech on Thursday. The Governor’s appeal to the legislature signals his support for parents and the need for every student to have the opportunity to succeed.PublicSchoolOptions.org urges the Massachusetts legislature to follow the Governor’s lead on charter schools and create more opportunities for choice in education.PublicSchoolOptions.org believes that every child, regardless of their zip code or how much money their parents make, deserves the best start in life. We firmly believe that begins with a parent’s ability to choose the school where their child will thrive — whether that’s in a traditional brick and mortar school, public virtual school, charter school, home school, or private school. Every child learns differently, even within the same family. Giving parents options so their child can succeed is critical.STATEMENT FROM TILLIE ELVRUM, PUBLICSCHOOLOPTIONS.ORG PRESIDENT AND SCHOOL CHOICE ADVOCATE:“Governor Baker’s call to lift the cap on public charter schools is welcomed by many parents across the state. As parents, we know what’s best for our children and we want to protect and increase the choices that families have when choosing the educational option that works best for their child. The Governor’s plan is common-sense and we urge the legislature to work to expand choice for Massachusetts families.”PublicSchoolOptions.org is a national alliance of parents that supports and defends parents’ rights to access the best public school options for their children. The Coalition supports the creation of public school options, including charter schools, online schools, magnet schools, open enrollment policies and other innovative education programs. Additionally, we advocate for equal access without restrictions to these public schools for all children.
