Last week, PSO national board president Tillie Elvrum kicked off National School Choice Week with parents and students from some of California’s public virtual schools. National School Choice Week started in 2011 and is now the world’s largest annual celebration of opportunity in education. Over the past seven years, there have been more than 58,000 National School Choice Week events planned across the country and around the world.

Tillie was joined by California Parents for Public Virtual Education leaders Nicole Conragan and Virginia Shemanski at the state capitol in Sacramento to meet with legislators and state education policy staff. They shared why the virtual option was the best fit for their children and why California lawmakers need to continue supporting this growing educational option.Following the meetings with legislators they attended the official kick-off event for National School Choice Week at the California Museum. Hundreds of parents and students from area schools of choice attended the event, which featured a tour of the museum and scavenger hunt. Attendees heard from Tillie and National School Choice Week president Andrew Campanella. Many of PSO’s families will be celebrating at National School Choice Week events across the country this week.
