WASHINGTON – PublicSchoolOptions.org president Tillie Elvrum made the following statement about the final presidential debate, urging the candidates to discuss the critical importance of education in cultivating a prepared workforce for our 21st century economy.STATEMENT FROM TILLIE ELVRUM, PUBLICSCHOOLOPTIONS.ORG PRESIDENT, PARENT LEADER AND SCHOOL CHOICE ADVOCATE:“As a parent I am stunned that education has not been addressed in any meaningful way by either candidate. With only three weeks remaining in the election, and tonight’s third and final presidential debate, few opportunities remain for the candidates to present their vision for education. We urge Secretary Clinton and Mr. Trump to lay out, clearly, how they will improve education and meet the individual needs of students.“For those of us who have taken advantage of the educational choices our states provide like public charter schools, magnet schools, and online schools, we know the powerful impact these programs have on our children. Choice allows our children to think critically, engage with members of their community, learn in the environment that works best for them, and leverage technology to be better prepared for jobs in the 21st century economy.“I, along with thousands of parents, are carefully listening for ways that a President Clinton or President Trump will help their child succeed in this global economy. Amid threats of school closure, cuts to funding, and anti-choice legislation, parents like me need an educational champion to ensure access to the schools that work best for our children.”PublicSchoolOptions.org is a national alliance of parents that supports and defends parents’ rights to access the best public school options for their children. The Coalition supports the creation of public school options, including charter schools, online schools, magnet schools, open enrollment policies and other innovative education programs. Additionally, we advocate for equal access without restrictions to these public schools for all children.###
