BATON ROUGE, La. – PublicSchoolOptions.org made the following statement today about the failed anti-charter school bills that threatened the education of thousands of Louisiana students. House Bill 879 and Senate Bill 149 failed to pass their respective committees this week.CHRISTIN WHITE-KAISER, LOUISIANA PUBLICSCHOOLOPTIONS.ORG PARENT LEADER:“Representative Bouie, Senator Gatti, and the teacher’s union attempt to take away choice in education from families and students was a huge failure. It was another black eye for the teacher’s union that has already tried, and failed, to close public charter schools that are serving well thousands of Louisiana students. We are pleased that these bills went nowhere fast, and we hope that legislators heard parents’ messages loud and clear: choice in education matters. PublicSchoolOptions.org parents spent the last two weeks at the state capitol advocating for their children’s schools, in addition to packing committee hearing rooms ready to testify about why the schools they choose for their children are working. We will continue to make our voices heard until every family in Louisiana has the opportunity to choose the educational environment where their children will learn best.”PublicSchoolOptions.org is a national alliance of parents that supports and defends parents’ rights to access the best public school options for their children. The Coalition supports the creation of public school options, including charter schools, online schools, magnet schools, open enrollment policies and other innovative education programs. Additionally, we advocate for equal access without restrictions to these public schools for all children.
